Deep Ellum Brewing Company opened it’s doors in the spring of 2011 and Caliber was right there to help introduce them to the commmunity. For Caliber, it was important for them to capture the alternative spirit that is Deep Ellum. The new branding system for DEBC is rough, energetic and ever-changing, just like the beer it represents. Caliber helped them launch their new branding at the Deep Ellum Arts Festival with a variety of shirts, stickers and booth graphics. DEBC is bringing craft beer to Dallas, and Caliber is right there to order the first round.

I now I’m a bit late on this one, but the design work for San Francisco Beer Week is absolutely incredible.

We thought it would be cool to illustrate beer names from (almost) every brewery in Northern California, so long as the name was something that could be illustrated in a fun way (Trumer Pils for instance didn’t make the cut). Something that’s fun to look at in general, and something that people in beer would have a good time really geeking out on. All told there are about 160 illustrated beers, some obvious and some not.

JW. Dundee’s line of beers was suffering from an image problem. They were craft beers hiding behind labels, packaging, and positioning that convinced just about everyone that they were something less.

The breakthrough came because we understood that their beer shouldn’t define craft beer drinkers, it should reflect them. We rebranded the line as Dundee Ales & Lagers and repositioned them in the minds of consumers and on the beer shelf as the craft beers they’ve always been.

Packaging caters for the seasonal varietals launched throughout the year under the Monteith’s umbrella. Each varietal is faithful to a traditional brewing style from around the globe, interpreted in a distinct Monteith’s way.

The Brown Palace and the Wynkoop Brewery partnered to create a new brew for the Great American Beer Festival. Rooftop Honey coupled a saison beer with honey from the beehives on top of the hotel. Karsh\Hagan worked with The Brown Palace and the Wynkoop Brewery to develop the name Rooftop Honey. Design the logo. Select the tap handles, glasses, coasters and t-shirts. And, of course, drink the beer. Karsh Hagan designer Kelsey Wittenberg put a playful spin on the classic Brown Palace logo, replacing the gargoyles with bees.

The bold, illustrative branding we created for Foothills Brewing conveys the distinct character of each brew and captures the atmosphere of their brand.

Viru is a British owned trademark. The beer is brewed and bottled in Estonia and on sale in exclusive clubs and restaurants around the world. Its initial development was ad-hoc and this was reflected in the conflict between label and bottle. The communication stressed a bit of everything and the brand lacked clarity.

Our job was to clarify the positioning of Viru, to define and stress its strengths while discarding everything that didn’t fit the Viru legend. All this without alienating loyal customers of the brand.

We anchored Viru in the art-deco period, emphasizing the uniqueness of the octahedral bottle and created additional suitable design elements. The bottle gained identity, the facing of the label was increased and the surface finish of the glass was improved. The broader story of Viru was illustrated on the new web page.

The overall identity of Viru has now been applied to incorporate 4-packs, cases and on supporting material from coasters to T-shirts. All the point-of-sale material is clearly focused on emphasizing the unique shape of the bottle and stresses the tag-line “Beautiful Beer.”

Formed in 1938, the Beer Distributors of Oklahoma (BDO) is the state organization for licensed independent beer distributors in Oklahoma, the majority of which are family-owned and operated small businesses lead by second or third generation distributors.

The goal was to give the organization a new look without forgetting the rich heritage they have built since the 1930′s.
