Outer Light Brewing Company was looking to start canning their flagship beers, as they were currently bottling. When we met I suggested that it might be a good time to look at a possible rebrand. We discussed in depth who they were as a brand and went through a branding questionnaire that would help us redefine them. Rebrand and developing a logo is a time intensive process and Outer Light was up for the challenge. We narrowed their brand story to the fact that they loved the outdoors, particularly, surfing and hiking. The logo takes on a surf inspired modern look, while also nodding to the outdoors and hiking.”

“In the end we moved away from their, self-admitted, 90’s brewpub look, for something simple, clean and modern. They wanted to stand out in an increasingly saturated Connecticut market. When it came to the can designs, the look needed to help support the newly established brand, so they had to be clean, modern and bold. I created a simple bold brand architecture using bright colors that contain the energy we were looking for. Iconography was used through out the design as a visual extension of the logo. In particular, each can has a unique icon that represents each of the beers. Lonesome Boatman Amber Ale has a solitary boat, Subduction IPA has a submarine (honoring the sub manufacturing that resides in Groton), Libation Propaganda has the raised fists of resistance and Cloudbreak Double IPA has a lone cloud floating in the sky.”
