Hilden Brewing Co.

April 18, 2013 | Designed by Elm House Creative

It’s not every day you get the opportunity to work with Ireland’s oldest independent brewery, so after successfully winning the Hilden Brewing Company account, we proceeded to fully rebrand the company and create an exciting new range of beer labels.

The client felt the existing branding had become tired and dated. Our job was to bring the brand back to life. We did this by giving the brand a contemporary tone whilst taking inspiration from the stories and sense of place that surround Hilden.

The key to this job was to delve back into the past and understand the origins of Hilden, its wealth of history and unique heritage. We also wanted to draw out the rather quirky and eccentric character of the brand.

  1. I love the new labels but a few words about the meaning of each one would be good, otherwise they are just pictures that the consumer doesn’t fully understand

  2. Good point Jim, the explanations are on the back labels, but in brief the pictures are: Scullions Irish Ale – the traditional Irish Claddagh ring. Barney’s Brew – Portrait of Barney Hughes, Belfast Master Baker & creator of the Belfast Bap used in the recipe. Hilden Ale – Cockerel from the old weathervane at Hilden House. Hilden Halt – the name of the train stop that once serviced the linen mill at Hilden House. Twisted Hop – a victorian wooden leg.

  3. Ah right, I understood why the Barney and Halt pictures were there, just not the others, thanks
