Doss Blockos

East 9th Brewing are a boutique brewing company based out of Melbourne. Their brand concept was taken from a famous Brooklyn landmark and the eventual design was inspired by visuals of old school 1960s kitsch with a firm nod towards the corporate logos of car manufactures of that time.

The first product out of the East 9th Brewery needed to continue the underground New York feel but reflect the energy of a new product.

The identity needed to be strong, bold and take consumers on a voyage of discovery through the eyes of a New York squatter. The design centred on the idea of ‘brown bagging’ (illegal public drinking from a brown paper bag) and a strong narrative structure centred on the New York squatting culture of the 1990s. The final design took inspiration from the street art of local artist Jak Rapmund.

  1. these guys must have a monopoly on the classy hobo market

  2. So it’s an Australian beer with it’s design inspired by a New York landmark (which one?), 1960’s kitch and old school car logos while the brown bagging comes from being a squatter in the 1990’s also it’s other promo artwork and logo are ‘street art’ inspired with stencils and graffiti pieces but there is also some comic style illustrations. Oh and it’s name sounds German or Russian.

    WHAT THE F*CK.

This is the most un-cohesive mess of contrived, hipster style copy+paste, cool by association bullsh*t I have ever seen. Nothing

  3. hilarious disaster. that’s something.

  4. The logo on the side belongs to a dutch punk band the Rondos !!

  5. The inspiration comes from the famous New York squat, Dos Blockos which was renowned for the street art and music that emerged from there. The symbol on the side is the “squatter’s symbol”.

So this should answer some of your confusion.
